Due to concerns over COVID-19 there will be no paper ballots in the 2020 CBRM elections. ALL voting will be done electronically (online or by telephone).
Voting will take place over 11 days in October. Starting at 8:00 am on Wednesday October 7th, ballots can be cast 24 hours a day until the close of the polls on Election Day: Saturday, October 17th at 7:00 pm.
How to Vote
Voting in the 2020 election will be more convenient than in past elections, allowing you to cast your ballot from home, anytime of day or night, from October 7th to 17th.
You will receive a Voter Instruction Letter by mail in September. This letter will include a unique PIN (personal identification number) and complete instructions on how to vote online or by phone.
A kiosk will be set up at City Hall, 320 Esplanade, Sydney, NS to help voters who require assistance during the above voting period. Inquiries should be directed to the Returning Office, 320 Esplanade, Suite 405, Sydney, tel. 902-563-5010; email firstname.lastname@example.org
NOTE: Pursuant to Section 82(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, an elector may vote once for mayor and once for councillor (and once for CSAP if an entitled parent/person). It is an offence to under the CBRM Alternative Voting By-law to:
- use another person’s PIN to vote or access the system (unless an appointed Friend voter);
- take, seize or deprive an elector of their PIN;
- sell, gift, transfer, assign or purchase a PIN.
